1. Candy Corn was originally called "Chicken Feed" when it was first popularized around the end of the 19th century. That's partially because before World War One, most Americans didn't really think of corn as people food.
2. The fear of Halloween is called Samhainophobia. A sufferer will have anxiety simply thinking about Halloween.
3. Halloween Eve, October 30th, is known in some states as "Mischief Night" . . . and it's celebrated with vandalism. Typical kid stuff like throwing eggs and toilet paper. The term is common in the Philadelphia area, as well as in New Jersey and Delaware, among others.
4. Silly String is banned in Hollywood on Halloween. Anyone caught possessing, using, or selling Silly String between 12:00 A.M. on October 31st and 12:00 P.M. on November 1st can be fined up to $1,000.
5. Candy wasn't commonly given out to trick-or-treaters until the 1950s. In the decades prior, kids got homemade cookies, fruit, nuts, coins, and little toys.
