The men of Old Dominion have shared the process of creating their latest single, “I Was On A Boat That Day,” and it involves a lot of tequila. ¡Olé!
A catchy song about not giving a flip, it’s no wonder tequila had a little (or a lot) to do with it!
“We wanted it to sound a little drunk and sloppy and fun,” lead singer, Matthew Ramsey told Audacy’s Coop. “So we had a bunch of tequila… we just went for it.”
The song, which was recently featured as an Audacy World Premiere, is just one of the new tunes expected on Old Dominion’s upcoming new, studio album.
Another highly anticipated song on the album is, “Hawaii,” which the group recently teased on their socials. Lead singer Matthew shared with Coop the song was actually inspired by a dinner that was cooked for them one night In studio.
“That day, we walked into the studio and we had some people there, our crew member were there that would cook us dinner and she was making a Hawaiian-themed dinner that night.” He explained.
“We were kind of joking, we were like, ‘oh, we should write a song about Hawaii today,’” Ramsey continued. “There was a little ukulele there and… that’s what came out. It was all inspired by what was going to be our dinner that night.”
While the release date of their upcoming album has not been revealed, the group has announced they will be on tour this year with their Band Behind The Curtain tour, and after more than a year off the road, the guys are looking forward to a fun run.
“When it’s like a beautiful day we roll down our fake grass outside the bus and smoke cigars out there, watch a little golf on TV,” guitarist Brad Tursi shared. “We create our own little bubble.”
Let’s make sure we add some tequila in there too, boys so we can get some more party anthems!
