Shannen Doherty wishes things could have gone different with her exit from “Beverly Hills, 90210.”
On a recent episode of her podcast, “Let’s Be Clear with Shannen Doherty,” fellow “90210” star Jason Priestley guested, as the actress discussed events going on in her life at the time of her firing from the popular show.
Doherty, said in the episode she was behaving unprofessional at the time during the program's fourth season, and said it had to do with problems in her marriage with then-husband Ashley Hamilton.
"I was in a really horrible marriage, and there were things that were transpiring in that marriage that made it really hard for me to be on time for work," she said, explaining how her coworkers would have to wait on set for her. "And I know that that became a very big problem for the rest of you, as it should be."
Doherty’s character, Brenda Walsh, was written off “90210” in season four, with fans finding out in season 5 she had gone to England to attend acting school.
"It wasn't anybody's responsibility but mine, but I sort of wish I would have been sat down and sort of looked at and said, 'Listen, the end result is going to be this, you are going to get fired and none of us are willing to put up with it anymore,'" she said. "And I understand that you have an issue in your personal life, but that also can't bleed into work and you need to get your s*** together!"
She continued, saying her father was also very sick at the time and coupled with her husband’s drug addiction, things became too much for her to handle.
Priestley recalled the time of Doherty's exit from the show being a difficult one.
"I could have hopefully managed it with more compassion, and we only knew what we knew," he said. "So, it was incredibly hard for me and there was so many unknowns, and I wish all of us had more knowledge about what was happening in your life so we could have dealt with your situation in a more compassionate way."
