PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - Shed Long scores the go-ahead run on a groundball to second base in the top of the 11th as the Seattle Mariners defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-5 and sweep the series.

Kevin Kramer ran at the runner at first back and made an attempt to tag him before throwing to first to get the batter out and Long scored the go ahead run while Omar Narvaez was in a rundown between first and second.

The big hit for the Mariners came off the bat of Shed Long who brought home Donnie Walton and Braden Bishop on a two run single to right field that gave Seattle the 4-0 lead.

In the first two games of the series, Seattle's pitching was able to keep the Pirates offense quiet, but it would finally wake up in the bottom of the second in the series finale as they would make up for the sloppy play on defense in the top half.

Colin Moran, Elias Diaz, Jake Elmore and Joe Musgrove all double in the inning to plate the first three runs and Kevin Newman would single home Musgrove as the Pirates answered right back to tie the game at 4.

On the single, Newman extended his hitting streak to 13 games and has now hit safely in 21 consecutive starts.

Pirates Starting Pitcher Joe Musgrove settled things back down after the second innings as would get through the fifth inning only allowing the four runs, two of them earned, walked two and struck out six on 97 pitches (67 strikes).

It was a rough second inning for Musgrove, but he was able to settle down and get through five innings and gave his team the opportunity to win the ballgame.

After Richard Rodriguez pitched a scoreless sixth in relief of Musgrove, Francisco Liriano came on to pitch the seventh and after retiring the first two batters of the inning, he walked the next two and Austin Nola singled to right to bring home Kyle Lewis to tie the game at 5 heading to the bottom of the seventh.

The Pirates will travel to Milwaukee for a three game series and their last road trip of the 2019 season. Steven Brault (4-5, 4.98 ERA) will take the mound in game one of the series for Pittsburgh against Chase Anderson (6-4, 4.50 ERA) and the Milwaukee Brewers.
