PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - Seattle Mariners Starting Pitcher Marco Gonzales pitches seven shutout innings, scattering six hits and the Mariners hit three solo home runs on their way to a 6-0 shutout victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates Tuesday night at PNC Park.

With two outs in the bottom of the third, Pirates Shortstop Kevin Newman extended his hitting streak to 11 games.

However, Mariners Catcher Narvaez threw out Newman trying to steal second and it was the second consecutive inning he threw out a Pirates runner trying to steal second to end an inning.

The Mariners would add on a run in the top of the fifth as Shed Long would single to left centerfield and bring home Marco Gonzales after he led off the inning with a double into the right field corner.

Starting Pitcher Mitch Keller worked his way through five innings and gave up two runs on six hits and struck out seven on 95 pitches (58 strikes).

Long would lead off the seventh inning with a solo home run off of Williams Jerez, who was recently claimed off waivers from the San Francisco Giants, to extend the Mariners lead to 5-0.

The Pirates had a great chance to get on the scoreboard in the seventh inning after Jose Osuna and Elias Diaz led off with back to back singles, but Gonzales was able to recover and retire the next three Pirates batters in order.

The Pirates and Mariners will play game two of this series Wednesday night as Dario Agrazal (4-4, 4.91 ERA) takes the mound for Pittsburgh against Justin Dunn (0-0, 27.00 ERA) and Seattle at 7:05 pm from PNC Park.
