Moran: 'I Was Told To Prepare Like I'm Playing Third Base'

Colin Moran Joins FAN Reaction To Talk About His Game-Winning HR

BRADENTON (93.7 The FAN) - Colin Moran played 23 games outside of third base in 2019 and with one of the Pirates top prospects in Ke'Bryan Hayes playing third base and being at AAA, it's fair to wonder if playing outside of third base could be in the cards for 2020.

"I reached out and asked if that was something I need to, because last year it just kind of like happened real quick and I haven't played left field since like 2017, so I definitely wanted to be prepared if that was something that was going to pop up and it sounded like that probably won't be a thing this year, or at least I was told to prepare like I'm playing third base so that's where I put my focus."

With Moran's defense being something he has openly talked about wanting to improve, I asked him what areas of his game he did focus on.

"You obviously work on foot speed and all that stuff, but I'm 27-years-old, I don't know if I'm gonna necessarily become the quickest guy over an offseason, so trying to gain a step in different ways.  So like rearing with who's on the mound and who's in the plate, like where he's likely to hit it.  Anticipating better, that's a big thing.  Trying to gain steps within the game.  Bottom line is trying to get quicker but trying to find which ways I can do that."
