PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - According to The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, defensive coordinator Keith Butler will be named as Joey Porter's replacement as outside linebackers coach.

Butler, who was the Steelers' linebacker coach for 12 years, will continue to serve as defensive coordinator as well, according to sources.

Having Butler take on the additional role is not uncommon for the Steelers, as Randy Fichtner pulls double duty as both the offensive coordinator and the QB coach.

The Steelers have not made an official comment on the move, but Twitter is already buzzing about the report.

Keith Butler's Steelers defense sucked, so let's put more on his plate! Should have fired the guy and made Tomlin hire a legit coordinator or made Tomlin, God's gift to defense, coordinate the unit.

About this whole "the Steelers won't hire an OLB coach to replace Joey Porter but just let Keith Butler take on additional duties business ... it is short-sighted. Period. An additional set of eyes can only serve to help.

Seems like a great idea to me. Take a guy who seems to be in over his head and add responsibilities to his duties----‍♂️ https://t.co/kSjFR9jBqu

Porter, who played linebacker for the Steelers from 1999-2006, was hired as the outside linebackers coach in 2015. In a statement made by Mike Tomlin, Porter was told his contract was not going to be renewed. "These are difficult decisions when it comes to someone like Joey who has meant a lot to this organization as both a player and coach. I want to thank Joey for his coaching efforts over the past five years on our defensive staff. We wish him the best in his future coaching career."
