PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - For the first time in franchise history, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC are sitting on the top of the Eastern Conference heading into the postseason that begins this Saturday night at Highmark Stadium.
The Hounds opponent will be decided on Wednesday but the club’s color commentator Paul Child tells 93.7 The Fan they have a really good club that can go far in the playoffs.
“Winning the Eastern Conference is a real big deal,” said Child. “Getting all those playoff games will be at home except for the final is a big plus for the team right now.”
After losing in heartbreaking fashion at home to Bethlehem Steel in a shootout during the playoffs last year, the Hounds have not looked back, especially at home where they have a 17-match unbeaten streak going at Highmark Stadium.
Child credits the strong defense and a group of different guys scoring goals for the club.
The Hounds success couldn’t have come at a better time either, the team is celebrating its 20th season, has embraced the black and gold color scheme and has a beautiful stadium on the banks of the Allegheny River.
And now that final piece is starting to fit, winning on the field.
“When you’re in this city, you got to win and that’s what’s really important because you know it’s the City of Champions,” said Child.
