LOUISVILLE - (93.7 The Fan) - The Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC returned to the field on Sunday, marking the first professional Pittsburgh team to return to action.

The Hounds spoiled Louisville City FC’s first-ever game a Lynn Family Stadium.

Louisville took an early lead in the 18th minute but the Hounds tied it up just before the half, after Jordan Dover scored.

Robbie Mertz scored the second goal for the Hounds in the 46th minute and Anthony Velarde scored the team’s third goal in the 51st minute.

“At halftime we were able to clean some stuff up,” Coach Bob Lilley said. “I think we started the second half really well with the attitude that we’re here to win the game and we’re going to make it hard. There were two great goals. We made the extra passes. Ropapa [Mensah] held on to the ball and found the right runners going forward in Robbie and Anthony. We knew if we could win the ball there is definitely space.

The victory puts the Hounds into first place in Group F in the USL.

The victory also marks the first opening day win for Coach Lilley.

The Hounds also played in front of a crowd of 4,850. Fans were socially distanced and masks were worn.

Reports from the stadium claim no one protested the mask requirement and only a handful of people need to be reminded to pull up their mask.

The Hounds travel to Philadelphia for a match this Saturday against Union II. It kicks off at 7:30 p.m.
