Pittsburgh (93.7 The Fan) - The Steelers wasted no time signing ten undrafted players as free agents Saturday evening.
Calvin Taylor, a 6-foot-8, 308-pound defensive tackle from Kentucky, was one of seven players on the defensive side of the ball that agreed to terms. Taylor had 8.5 sacks in 2019. Mississippi defensive end Josiah Coatney and Mississippi State linebacker Leo Lewis, a four-year starter, also played in the SEC.
Also signed were Baylor outside linebacker James Lockhart, inside linebacker John Houston, a captain at USC, Miami cornerback Trajan Bandy and James Pierre, a cornerback from Florida Atlantic.
Rounding out the free agent class are Tulane guard Christian Montano, Auburn fullback Spencer Nigh and Corliss Waitman, a punter that will provide competition for Jordan Berry. Waitman sat out last season after transferring from South Alabama to Mississippi State and being denied a sixth year of eligibility.
Only one of the players signed after the draft a year ago landed on the regular season roster. These ten players will attempt to make the team along with the six players drafted and nine former XFL players signed in recent weeks.
