PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - Steelers great Troy Polamalu’s journey to the Pro Football Hall of Fame has begun.
The list of 122 will be reduced to 25 semifinalists in November and then 15 finalists in early January.
Five of those 15 players will be selected for the Hall of Fame by the Selection Committee during its annual meeting the day before Super Bowl LIV.
To honor the NFL’s 100th anniversary 20 total members will be selected, 10 senior players (a player who has been retired for more than 25 season), three contributors, who is someone other than a player or a coach and two coaches.
Polamalu an eight-time Pro Bowler and two time Super Bowl champion was the AP Defensive Player of the year in 2010.
In 158 total games with the Steelers Polamalu had a total of 32 interceptions and 7 fumble recoveries.
He had 581 solo tackles, 197 assists and 56 tackles for a loss.
Steelers all-time leading receiver Hines Ward and guard Alan Faneca have once again been nominated.
Faneca was a finalist last year.
On the defensive side nose tackle Casey Hampton and linebacker James Farrior, are also on the list of nominees.
