Pirates Officially Introduce New Manager Derek Shelton

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – The Pittsburgh Pirates introduced new manager Derek Shelton Wednesday morning at PNC Park.
The 49-year-old Shelton spend the last two years at the bench coach for the Minnesota Twins and has 15 total years of coaching experience at the Major League level.
Shelton says he knows the expectation is to win sooner rather than later in Pittsburgh.
“Expectations are awesome and when you have a market where expectations are that you want to play meaningful games in October and later, I’m all in on that, I think that’s why we both signed up to be here,” said Shelton.
Shelton said an important part of bringing winning back to baseball to Pittsburgh is through building relationships and having fun.
“It’s going to be a fun place to be around,” said Shelton.
Cherington said that the feedback he got from players about Shelton was overwhelming adding they spoke with conviction about him as a coach and how he cares about making players better.
