The Pittsburgh Penguins have announced a year-long celebration of the team’s 60th anniversary in the NHL.
The Penguins will open the season October 3 at PPG Paints Arena against the Montreal Canadiens at 7 p.m.
A pre-game ceremony will be held on Saturday with fans encouraged to get to their seats early for the celebration.
The Penguins have also debuted a special 60th anniversary “retro-inspired” logo. The five stars on the logo represent the team’s five Stanley Cup Championships and white, gold and black strips represent the city’s three rivers.
The logo will be painted at center ice, be displayed on players’ helmets and will be on the team jerseys for the home opener on Saturday.
Those game-worn jerseys will be available later on the Penguins Authentics site.
60thh anniversary giveaways will be available through the season and fans can also buy a special anniversary logo patch that benefit the Penguins Foundation.
