CeeDee Lamb makes insane plays. Like this one.
And this one.
And especially this one (that didn't count).
Whether it's due to his insane ability to reel in catches that only few other humans can replicate or make defenders look silly after the catch, it's no wonder that the Oklahoma product has been drawing high praise from nearly every analyst out there.
When asked about who he models his game after, Lamb didn't have a specific answer. Instead, he defaulted to the players who he's drawn several comparisons to: DeAndre Hopkins and Davante Adams.
Over the past three years, those two receivers have combined for a total of six Pro Bowl nominations. That's just a fancy way of saying that both guys he's being compared to are on the very top tier of the league's wideouts, which means the expectations are absolutely through the roof for Lamb.
One of the aforementioned Pro Bowlers, DeAndre Hopkins, recently found a new home with the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals also happened to be on the top suitors for a receiver of Lamb's caliber, but due to that shocking acquisition, they don't seem to be in need of the electrifying talent on the outside anymore.
So who is a good suitor for CeeDee Lamb? Will the Cardinals acquisition of Hopkins allow Lamb to slide outside of the top 10 and become a potentially huge draft-day bargain? Or would he not have even made it to pick No. 8 to begin with?
Let's dive in.
New York Jets
The Jets are looking to add talent to Sam Darnold's group of receiving weapons.Getty ImagesRobby Anderson's out, and no one else has come in. But that may be because almost every report out there indicates that the Jets could likely use pick No. 11 on adding receiving talent to a corps that currently includes Jamison Crowder, Quincy Enunwa and Le'Veon Bell. That doesn't seem like nearly enough of a supporting cast to allow for the breakout season from Sam Darnold that many Jets are anxiously hoping for.
Jerry Jeudy is the most likely obstacle that stands in the way of Lamb heading to the Big Apple and joining forces with Gang Green. Jeudy and Lamb are both considered to be in the top tier of receivers available in the 2020 draft, along with Henry Ruggs, but which one is ranked higher is up for debate.
Seeing as Lamb is a bigger body with more explosive talent whereas Jeudy is a clean route runner with polished NFL skills and top-end speed, the Jets may want to go with the receiver who offers more big play ability given the team's lack of any electrifying playmakers after Anderson's departure.
Las Vegas Raiders
Jon Gruden wants to provide his quarterback with some more help in 2020.Getty ImagesAfter the Antonio Brown saga came to an unfortunate end in Oakland, the Raiders receiver corps appeared to be pretty barren. However, given the circumstances, there is a decent amount of promise between breakout tight end star Darren Waller, veteran Tyrell Williams and up-and-comer Hunter Renfroe.
However, that's still not a group that would provide a quarterback with much confidence, and with likely change in the Raiders QB plan, it seems likely that Jon Gruden would want to provide Derek Carr/Marcus Mariota/other candidates with as much talent as possible. As the team currently stands, I ranked them as boasting the No. 30 pass-catching group out of 32 teams.
Enter CeeDee Lamb. It's rare that a rookie receiver would immediately step in and fulfill a No. 1 WR role in an offense, but this situation would seem to promise Lamb a legitimate chance at such an opportunity. The biggest obstacle in the Raiders' quest for Lamb is whether or not the Jets decide to pass on him.
San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers could use the No. 13 pick on wide receiver help.Getty ImagesGetting rid of DeForest Buckner was a big blow, but the 49ers Super Bowl caliber defense could stand to use a big piece like that and still be considered elite. However, losing Emmanuel Sanders, though not as valuable a player as Buckner, was perhaps a bigger blow to the team that is short of reliable receiving talent.
Deebo Samuel holds a ton of promise and potential, and Kendrick Bourne showed glimpses throughout 2019. But the Dante Pettis and Marquise Goodwin experiments never quite panned out for San Francisco and neither of their jobs are secure. Thus, with the No. 13 pick now in their arsenal after the Buckner trade with Indianapolis, a receiver would be a logical target for San Francisco.
Philadelphia Eagles
Philadelphia is a candidate to trade up in the 2020 NFL Draft.Getty ImagesThe Eagles are another team that desperately needs to add receiving help through the draft after staying silent at that position in the offseason. However, there's no foreseeable way, at least in my mind, that Lamb could drop down to pick No. 21, which is where the Eagles are currently slotted.
But murmurs coming out of Philadelphia is that the team is willing to trade up in order to capture one of the primary receivers in this loaded draft class. One potential trade partner is the Browns, according to Eagles beat writer Eliot Shorr-Parks of 94.1 WIP, seeing that Philadelphia GM Howie Roseman has a pre-existing relationship with Cleveland GM Andrew Berry, the team has 10 picks at their disposal to utilize as draft capital and that both teams indicated throughout the combine that they were flexible in terms of shifting in the draft. The Panthers, who just signed Robby Anderson, could be another team looking to trade down and add more draft capital.
Lamb would be a perfect addition to the Eagles system. With Alshon Jeffery and DeSean Jackson coming off of injury-marred 2019 campaigns, Lamb would provide both the physicality and the explosiveness that would potentially be missing if either of their injury histories contributed to more missed time in 2020.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Gardner Minshew will be leading the charge in Jacksonville for the 2020 season.Getty ImagesThis is the most realistic case of Lamb being drafted within the top 10 picks. The Jaguars are hurting in a ton of areas and the loss of another huge piece, Yannick Ngakoue, seems inevitable at this point. Thus, there are a ton of options for the Jaguars in the draft. They need defensive line help desperately, their secondary is in shambles and the offensive line is nothing special, either.
But while the wide receiver corps is deep, it doesn't boast an absolute star. D.J. Chark is getting there and showed fantastic chemistry with Gardner Minshew early on in his career, but the group behind him that consists of Dede Westbrook, Marquise Lee, Keelan Cole and other unproven talents doesn't inspire much courage.
Again, defense probably needs the most help and is the area the Jaguars will most likely address early in the draft, instead waiting to use a second- or third-round pick on one of the many receivers available. However, if Jacksonville trades down slightly or decides to nix the defense and provide Gardner Minshew with a strong supporting cast, Lamb is a dynamic option the team can't ignore.
