OAKMONT, PA (93.7 The Fan) – Rain did indeed help the scoring for day three of the US Open at Oakmont Country Club. A dozen players were under par. Here is a list of every round under par along with those who really struggled Saturday during the third round, plus some reactions.
Red rounds (those under par on Saturday)
· Sam Burns-third-round leader has not had a 3-putt all week
· After a bogey on 1, Adam Scott finished -4 the rest of the day and a shot off the lead
· JJ Spaun hit 15 greens in regulation for a 69 and is -3, a shot back
· Carlos Ortiz made only one bogey, that was on number 18 for a 67 and is even par for the championship.
“Honestly, the only thing I'm trying to do is just do my best and start on the first hole and pick it up on 18, whatever that is, you know,” Ortiz said. “It's hard out there, I'm just trying to do my best, honestly.”
· A double bogey on 15 spoiled a 4-birdie back nine as Tyrrell Hatton still finished with a 68 and 1 over for the championship.
· A run of four straight birdies from number 4 through 7 highlighted the 69 by Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen, he is +2 overall
· Cameron Young played with Scottie Scheffler and outscored him with a 69 led by a 32 on the back 9, he is +3 for the championship
· Ryan Gerard shot a 69 despite 34 putts, hitting 16 of 18 greens in regulation
· Marc Leishman, the 41-year-old got it to plus 2 at one point before falling back to +4 for the tournament, but a 68 on Saturday with 6 birdies
“We play against really, really strong fields every single week on LIV, and I think doing that has made me work harder not only on my golf game but my body and my head, and that lends itself to more family life, too,” Leishman said. “Like I said, life is in a good spot at the moment for me. I'm very happy and happy to be contending at a U.S. Open.”
· Matt Wallace shot a 69 as one of the shortest hitters today
· New Jersey US Open qualifier Chris Gotterup had only one bogey on Saturday, shot 69 and is +4 overall
