Burke thanks Rutherford, says Rodrigues ankle is not broken

The Penguins' President of Hockey Operations says he doesn't expect Malkin to play Saturday

Good news on the injury front for the Penguins. Forward Evan Rodrigues, who left Thursday night's game against Washington in the first period, does not have a broken ankle.

"I thought for sure he broke his ankle, but it's not broken he had X-ray imaging last night and he had a CAT scan this morning and it's not broken," said Brian Burke, President of Hockey Operations for the Penguins on with Ron Cook Friday afternoon.

Rodrigues will be unavailable for a few days with a swollen ankle but Burke expects him to be back in time for the playoffs.

Another player that has been out a while, Evgeni Malkin, practiced again with the team Friday, but Burke doesn't expect him to play Saturday night against the Capitals, "but I do think we'll see him on the trip," said Burke.

With the Penguins winning in overtime Thursday in Washington, they clinched their 15th straight postseason appearance, the longest streak in North American sports.

Burke gladly admitted he has had very little to do with it and puts the praise on the former general manager.

"I do want to remember today to single out Jimmy Rutherford, almost all of the players here are the players that Jimmy left and he should not be overlooked or forgotten on a day like today," said Burke.

After Saturday's game in Washington, the Penguins have four games left, two on the road against the Flyers and then come back home to wrap up the season with the Sabres.
