Clayton: Titans need to be 'severely' punished for breaking protocol

The NFL Insider says 'I honestly do think they've got to look at a forfeiture'

NFL Insider John Clayton tells the PM Team the NFL needs to come down hard on the Titans after how pictures surfaced of them holding unsanctioned workouts and violating the league rules that required them not to gather after positive coronavirus tests.

How hard should the league come down on the Titans?  "Severely," John said.  "They've got to come down with as heavy of a penalty against the players, the team, everything else."

"The only thing that may save them from a forfeit is last weeks rule, and I say last week when it happened on September 30th, did not have forfeiture in there, but this week, they did put forfeiture in there. I mean honestly, I think whether it's going to be this weeks game against Buffalo if they don't play it, last weeks game against the Steelers, I honestly do think they've got to look at a forfeiture, they've got to look at a draft choice being penalized against the team."

Asked if he really believes the league could enforce a forfeiture for the Titans game against the Steelers, John said

"They could, but of course that wasn't in last weeks rule...but something needs to happen.  They were able to reschedule the Steeler game, but of course the Steelers had to pay the price...I still think there's a chance.  In the end, something has to forfeit."

What could the punishment be for Titans QB Ryan Tannehill who was in the photo of the players working out last week despite the outbreak.

"If they found out particularly they did it this week, because he's the leader of the team, that's got to be a couple games, two, three games, somewhere in that neighborhood."
