Drury out as Penguins GM candidate

TSN reports current Rangers assistant said he's not interested

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Talked about as a potential lead candidate to be the Pens next general manager, a NHL insider says Chris Drury is not interested.

TSN's Bob McKenzie reports the 44-year-old Drury, the Rangers assistant general manager, informed Penguins managed he isn't interested in leaving New York City or the Rangers at this time. The Pens had requested permission to talk to Drury.


Drury was a star player on multiple levels.  He was a Hobey Baker Award-winner at the University of Boston.  Calder Memorial Trophy winner with the Colorado Avalanche, where he also won a Stanley Cup.  A former captain of the Sabres and Rangers and in the US Hockey Hall of Fame.

Drury started as the Rangers director of player development in September 2016 and has been the Hartford Wolf Pack general manager since May of 2017 in his role as a Rangers assistant.

TSN's Pierre LeBrun reports Ron Hextall (credited with setting the stage for the Flyers turn around), Tom Fitzgerald (currently the Devils GM and former Penguin), Peter Chiarelli (won Stanley Cup with Bruins in 2011, also GM with Edmonton) and former Jim Rutherford assistant and just hired as an assistant in Seattle, Jason Botterill are among other potential candidates.
