PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – It's another season where there is nearly a complete overhaul of the Duquesne basketball roster as the Dukes announced 10 new players for the 2023-24 year on Wednesday.
Guards Jimmy Clark and Dae Dae Grant and forward Tre Williams return on a team that went 20-13, 10-8 in the Atlantic 10 in 2022-23. They will be joined by a pair of freshmen from Pittsburgh, twins originally from Mali and players from four other countries.
Jake DiMichele (6'4", 185 pounds) is the second leading scorer in WPIAL history (2,642 points) leading Our Lady of the Sacred Heart for four WPIAL titles and a pair of state 2A championships. DiMichele finished a prep season at First Love Academy in Washington County last year.
Taylor Allderdice HS 6'1" guard Ethan Anish was selected to the 2022-23 Roundball Classic and named Hoop Group All-Star Game MVP after captaining Allderdice to back-to-back City League Championships.
Seventh year Dukes head coach Keith Dambrot also added some international size with 6'10", 235-pound Dusan Mahorcic a graduate student from North Carolina State while also playing at Utah and Illinois State. The Belgrade, Serbia native averaged 8.7 points and 6.6 rebounds before a season-ending knee injury in December. Czech Republic native Jakub Necas is 6'8", 210 pounds having played in the Czech National Basketball League the last four years.
Graduate student Andrei Savrasov from St. Petersburg, Russia transferred from Georgia Southern. At 6'7", 225 pounds, Savrasov started his career at Texas Tech before averaging 12.5 points and 6.4 rebounds at GSU. Mali twins Fousseyni and Hassan Drame are 6'7", 200 pounds, both coming from LaSalle and combine to add about 10 rebounds a game. The final international player is 6' guard Kailon Nicholls from Toronto by way of the Hargrave Military Academy.
