The Duquesne Dukes PA announcer Dominic Errico died on Thursday due to complications from COVID-19.

Errico battled the virus for eight weeks at Presbyterian Hospital. On January 25 Errico was taken to Passavant Hospital and placed in the Intensive Care Unit, the same day as his son’s 10th birthday, in critical condition. When his condition worsened he was life flighted to Presby.

Errico had been with the Dukes since 2014.

“Heartbroken doesn't even begin to describe how we feel tonight,” Duquesne Athletics said in a statement.

A statement on a GoFundMe page describes what kind of person Dom was.

“He put his whole heart and soul into loving his family. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, spreading kindness and joy everywhere he went and to everyone he met.
He was a family man. He was a romantic. He was always the life of the party.
His passion and talent for announcing was phenomenal and inspiring to so many. He built such a wonderful fan base and so many new friendships from it.”

In addition to working Dukes’ games, Errico was also the announcer for the Pittsburgh Power arena football team, The Steel City Yellow Jackets ABA team and more.

Dominic was the sole breadwinner for the Errico family and with two young children and just losing her mother to Alzheimer’s disease on Christmas Eve, Errico’s wife Libbie needs all of the help she can get.
