Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere is facing a hearing on Wednesday for boarding Penguins defenseman Mark Friedman after scoring an empty net goal on Tuesday night.
Gostisbehere's cheap shot ran Friedman into the boards behind the goal.
The Pens sent out their top power play up 6-3 and John Marino scored the 7th goal of the game to secure the victory for Pittsburgh.
The hearing comes a day after Capitals forward Tom Wilson was fined $5,000 for his late hit to the back of the head on Pavel Buchnevic in Washington's 6-3 win over the Rangers on Monday.
Wilson hit Buchnevic in the crease after the whistle, causing Rangers star Artemi Panarin to jump in before Wilson grabbed Panarin by the hair and slammed him to the ice. Wilson received a double-minor for roughing and a 10- minute misconduct, while Buchnevic and Panarin received roughing penalties.
Anyway, enough about Wilson, back to Friedman and the Flyers.
Friedman was waived by the Flyers and then claimed by Pittsburgh earlier this season.
He told the Pittsburgh Jewish Chronical back in March about his transition to Pittsburgh, "There is more of a homier feel than Philadelphia. It's not as busy, not as noisy, nicer people.
It's not as dirty, especially in Cranberry where I live. It's just a great neighborhood."
And there's obviously no love lost between Friedman and his former team.
In only his second game with the Penguins, Friedman scored his first career goal against the Flyers and was later injured missing nearly a month and a half after suffering an upper body injury.
