Former Pirates manager Clint Hurdle returning to coaching

Former Pirates Manager Clint Hurdle is back in the MLB as a coach.

The Colorado Rockies announced Thursday that hitting coach Hensley Meulens was fired by the team.

Hurdle, the Special Assistant to the General Manger, was named his replacement “for the remainder of the season.”

It’s the first time Hurdle has coached since he managed the Pirates from 2011 – 2019.

Hurdle was part of a team that swept the Yankees to win the American League.

He managed a Rockies team to a 20-8 September won a play-in playoff game 9-8 in 13 innings and then the National League pennant during his first stint in Colorado

However, Clint Hurdle told the PM Team earlier this month, about the Pirates Wild Card win over Cincinnati in 2013.

“I’ve never been a part of any eruption like that from any fanbase ever before,” Hurdle said.

Hurdle retired from baseball after his stint in Pittsburgh, but two years later joined as a special assistant to the GM in Denver.
