The Tennessee Titans COVID-19 outbreak may give the Buffalo Bills a victory, but it would also cost them some money.
According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, if the Titans must forfeit their Week 5 matchup against the Bills, players on both teams would forfeit a game check and not be paid for the week.
The NFL has not yet made a decision on whether or not the game should be played, and forfeiting game checks for the team not in violation would likely not sit well with Bills players.
Per Mortensen, it has become a hot-button topic among players and roster sizes, IR modifications and game-day activities were designed in order to avoid this scenario.
The NFL sent a memo to teams earlier this week warning teams that they could be penalized with forfeitures. Players will still receive signing bonuses and roster bonuses, but will not be able to collect "Guaranteed Salary" for canceled games in 2020, which was outlined in an Aug. 3 letter from the NFL to NFLA on canceled games.
But the Bills, who have not done anything wrong, would also be getting punished under those rules despite being given a win. There has been discussion to move the game to either Monday or Tuesday, but it still puts the Bills in a predicament on weighing the risk catching the virus versus missing a paycheck.
