The Blackhawks placed 19-year NHL veteran Corey Perry on unconditional waivers with the intention to terminate his contract due to a workplace incident that violated the organization's standards.

Hawks general manager Kyle Davidson said the dismissal is not tied to a rumor that Perry slept with teammates Connor Bedard’s mother.

While he doesn’t know for sure, former Penguins forward Tyler Kennedy says in most cases “where there’s smoke, there’s fire.”

Speaking with the PM Team, Kennedy says it’s a little fishy that it happened during a mother’s trip for the Blackhawks.

“This would ruin everything (for Perry),” said Kennedy.

Kennedy also says it’s odd that someone would make up a rumor like that.

“Out of everything you can say, I don’t know where someone comes up with that,” said Kennedy. “It must have come from somewhere.”

Kennedy says all hockey players love their mothers, but “it’s a little bit of a party, letting loose a little, yeah you’re playing hockey, but you’re having fun after, you’re going to dinners, you’re having parties.”

“Again, you’re starting to deal with some guys that are the same age as your mom with alcohol, that doesn’t mix,” added Kennedy.

After this alleged incident, Kennedy doesn’t know if a mother’s trip will happen again in the NHL.

He also says he's heard Bedard's mother and Perry are around the same age.
