Things sound as if they are going to get uglier before they get better in the MLB labor negotiations.
According to MLB reporter Evan Drellich, owners indicated on Monday that they are willing to miss a month’s worth of games and took a more threatening tone with the players in their first meeting of the day.
Drellich noted that the full context of the conversation is not yet known, but it certainly does not sound as if things are moving in a positive direction.
MLB had previously set Monday as the deadline to reach a deal before resorting to cancelling regular season games, and with little progress being made in negotiations last week, it appears to be headed that way.
There was a report from Audacy’s Jon Heyman on Sunday that one source believed a deal could be “within striking distance,” but the initial reports from Monday certainly do not give that perception.
