The NFL is standing by its diversity hiring policy despite legal pushback from Florida’s attorney general.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is defending the Rooney Rule, saying it is consistent with the law and the NFL’s values.

The rule requires teams to interview minority candidates for top coaching and front-office jobs.

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier recently called the policy discriminatory, but Goodell says the league will continue to evolve.

Pittsburgh sports agent Greg Diulus tells KDKA Radio’s Rob Pratte he believes the policy is working.

“That’s, you know, government sticking its nose where it doesn’t belong, the Rooney Rule is working just fine,” said Diulus. “It’s giving a lot of opportunities to people who otherwise would’ve have gotten opportunities, government needs to stay out of that one.”

Steelers president Art Rooney II says the NFL plans to have discussions with Uthmeier about the rule.
