It looks like Julian Edelman's Patriots career, and possibly his NFL career, has come to an end.

According to multiple reports, the Patriots have terminated Edelman's contract with a failed physical designation.

ESPN's Mike Reiss reports that Edelman has been mulling retirement and that this could be a precursor to a retirement announcement.

Edelman played six games last year before suffering a season-ending knee injury. The injury was reportedly expected to limit him this upcoming season if he does play.

If this is indeed the end for Edelman in New England, it was a remarkable 12-year run for the 2009 seventh-round pick. He ranks second in franchise history in receptions and fourth in receiving yards.

Edelman was at his best in the postseason, helping the Patriots win three Super Bowls. He ranks second in NFL history in postseason receptions and receiving yards, behind only Jerry Rice, and was named Super Bowl MVP in the Patriots' win over the Rams in Super Bowl LIII.
