PITTSBURGH (93.7 the Fan) The Pittsburgh Penguins announced Saturday morning that defenseman Mike Matheson has been activated from injured reserve.
Matheson has missed the last eight games with a lower-body injury, and it is presumed he will be in the lineup Saturday night against the New York Islanders.
In two games so far this year, Matheson has not yet recorded a point.
The Penguins also elevated forward Drew O'Connor from the taxi squad.
O'Connor is 22-years-old and made his NHL debut this season against the Boston Bruins.
In four games, O'Connor has recorded one assist.
Matheson's return should help the Penguins who have seen a multitude of injuries on their blue line.
