Pens sign forward Josh Currie to 1 year deal

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) — On Friday, the Pittsburgh Penguins announced another signing to wrap up their already eventful week.

This time, the Penguins signed forward Josh Currie, and they signed him to a one-year deal.

General manager Jim Rutherford announced the new contract, and it wrapped a busy week where the Penguins finished up their 2020 Draft and also re-signed goaltender Tristan Jarry.

Currie's deal runs through the end of the 2021 season and will have a $700,000 cap hit.

The 27-year-old forward spent his 2019-2020 campaign with the Bakersfield Condors of the American Hockey League.

During the season, Currie posted 24 goals, 17 assists, and 41 points in 56 games played.

Those benchmarks for goals and points put him in first place among the Bakersfield players.

Currie has seen NHL action before, though.

He has 21 games under his belt that he spent with the Edmonton Oilers during the 2018-2019 season.

Currie originally went undrafted from the Prince Edward Island Rocket of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and spent much of the last five years playing for the Condors.
