PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Another big blow to the Pitt basketball program as forward Au'Diese Toney, once described as a glue-guy with the team, is gone.

"We have come to the mutual agreement that Au'Diese [Toney] will be leaving the Pitt Men's Basketball program effective immediately," head coach Jeff Capel said in a statement on Thursday.
"We appreciate his efforts the past three seasons in our program and wish him well as he looks to continue to grow on and off the court."


This comes the day after another junior, starting guard and second in the ACC in assists, Xavier Johnson announced he is entering the transfer portal.

The wording is different for Toney's release as he there isn't direct mention of transferring, but the result is still the same.  Two of the three top players at Pitt are no longer with the team.

Toney was Pitt's second leading scorer (14.4 points), rebounder (5.9) and also second in assists (2.2).  The Alabama native started the season with a pair of 20-point games.  Had 22 points and 11 rebounds in the win over Duke.  The game-winning basketball at Syracuse as part of 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Curtis Aiken is the lone remaining player from Capel's first recruiting class with Trey McGowens transferring to Nebraska after last season.

Panthers have lost four straight and 7 of its last 8 and play at NC State Sunday afternoon.
