Longtime Syracuse men’s basketball coach Jim Boeheim is has walked backed comments he made about Pitt and other schools concerning NIL recently.

Boeheim’s original comments:

"This is an awful place we're in in college basketball," Boeheim said.
"Pittsburgh bought a team. OK, fine. My [big donor] talks about it, but he doesn't give anyone any money. Nothing. Not one guy. Our guys make like $20,000. Wake Forest bought a team. Miami bought a team. ... It's like, 'Really, this is where we are?' That's really where we are, and it's only going to get worse, it’"

On Monday Morning, Boeheim said:

“I would like to clarify remarks I made in a conversation I had with a media member following our game on Saturday evening. I apologize to the schools I mentioned. I believe the ACC member institution are in compliance with NCAA rules governing Name, Image and Likeness (NIL). It was not my intention to imply otherwise.”

Former Pitt great Brandin Knight, who is now an assistant coach at Rutgers, took exception to Boeheim’s original comments.”

"This sounds like sour grapes," Knight said on Twitter. "Next time ask [Boeheim] how many teams he bought before NIL was legal. Don't throw stones from a glass house. Remember you've been coaching for a lot of years and a lot of us know who got paid!!!!"

The Fan Morning Show pointed out the huge scandal Boeheim was a part of at Syracuse from 2000 to 2012 that included a penalty of vacating nearly 110 wins from Boeheim’s record.

The lengthy report showed Syracuse of using improper benefits, academic misconduct and a failure to enforce the school’s drug policy.

“You can’t be the guy that other places are cheating,” said Colin Dunlap.

“I mean if Jay Wright got out and Mike Krzyzewski got out, then get your you know what out too,” said Dorin Dickerson. “Quit complaining because your team isn’t good.”

Chris Mack says what Boeheim is complaining about wasn’t even true and he had to walk back his comments a couple days later.

Boeheim has been the head coach of the Orange for 47 years.
