Not only do they have that belief, but so does the ESPN power index.
Before their first conference matchup against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, ESPN's power index gave Pitt a 42% chance to be the top team in the ACC Coastal.
Virginia Tech finished a distant second at 19%.
Those are some high expectations, but they aren't unachievable.
The two teams that finished above Pitt in the Coastal last year are predicated to be much less threatening.
Miami and North Carolina finished 2020 at 7-2 and 7-3 on conference play.
This year Miami is given a 11% chance to win the ACC Coastal and North Carolina a 5% chance.
