Pickett finishes 3rd in Heisman voting

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Pitt quarterback Kenny Pickett finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting on Saturday night in New York City with Alabama freshman quarterback Bryce Young winning.

The voting turned out this way
·       Alabama QB Bryce Young-2,311 votes
·       Michigan DL Aiden Hutchinson-954 votes
·       Pitt QB Kenny Pickett-631 votes (28-1st place votes)

The stats between Pickett and Young were closer than the voting was.
·       Young 68% completion, Pickett 67%
·       Young 4,322 yards, Pickett 4,319 yards
·       Young 43 touchdowns, Pickett 42
·       Young 4 interceptions, Pickett 7
·       Young 31 rush yards-3 TD, Pickett 233 rush yards-5 TD

No Panthers quarterback in the history of the award finished closer to winning the Heisman than Pickett. Dan Marino is the only other in the top five, finishing fourth to Marcus Allen (RB-USC) in 1981. Pickett is the seventh Pitt player to finish in the top five in voting.

Young marks the third straight year a player from the SEC won the Heisman Trophy and second straight year it’s a player from Alabama (DeVonta Smith).

Pickett set all of the major Pitt quarterback single-season and career records in 2021, won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award (1st Panther ever) and a finalist for the Heisman, Doak Walker, Walter Camp, Maxwell, Davey O’Brien, Manning and senior CLASS awards.  He also led the Panthers to a first ever ACC Championship.
