Pitt & Penn State move up in polls, Army/Navy join

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – It harkens back to 1982 when a 9-1 Pitt team faced a 9-1 Penn State team. The Panthers and Nittany Lions are a combined 12-0 in 2024 and both in the Associated Press Top 20.

Nittany Lions with a comeback win at USC in overtime on Saturday, while Pitt also beat a California team, a tight win over the Bears. Penn State is ranked 3rd overall while the Panthers are 20th.

Unlike 1982, the teams aren’t scheduled to meet at the end of the season. But, the fan bases hope there is a collision course being set for a December matchup.

Pitt will next host Syracuse on Thursday, October 24. The Orange are receiving votes in this week’s poll. It’s a bye week for Penn State as well and will play at Wisconsin on Saturday, October 26.

Army (6-0) enters at number 23 and Navy (5-0) at 25 as both are in the rankings together for the first time since 1960. Notre Dame could really determine their futures-Navy will host the 12th ranked Irish on October 26. Army will play at South Bend on November 23.
