PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Coming off a pair of Top 25 wins and tied for first place in the ACC, Pitt basketball also got a win in recruiting on Wednesday.
There is some inside leverage to landing this recruit, sixth-year transfer Nelly Cummings brother, Brandin, announced he verbally committed to Pitt. The combo guard, although seen as a shooting guard, is 6'3", 170 pounds and is still a junior at Lincoln Park High School.
He's currently on the border of being a four-star recruit and may still be rated as one before he signs. Cummings had offers from South Carolina, Creighton, Duquesne and Maryland was interested. He is the first commitment for the 2024 class.
Pitt's 2023 class is ranked 24th by 24/7 Sports and includes four-star point guard Jaland Lowe, four-star shooting guard Carlton Carrington and three-star small forward Marlon Barnes, Jr. from John Hugley's high school in Cleveland.
It's another sign of some stability for the Panthers program that has won five straight games and 10 of its last 11.
