PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Mentioned during a news conference before the Peach Bowl, Pitt Director of Athletics Heather Lyke said on Monday they continue to talk to football coach Pat Narduzzi about a contract extension following an 11-3, ACC Championship season.
"Lots of progress with Coach Narduzzi and his contract, we hopefully will have an announcement shortly," Lyke said. "We are close."
Narduzzi signed a seven-year extension in 2017 which lasts through the 2024 season. USA Today reported Narduzzi made just over $4.8 million this past season, topped in 2021 in the ACC, only by Clemson's Dabo Swinney.
Penn State's James Franklin makes $7 million. Miami paid Mario Cristobal $8 million annually to get him to leave Oregon. Michigan State's Mel Tucker is making $9.5 million on his recently signed contract extension. Former Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly will make $9.5 million and LSU and reports Lincoln Riley will get over $10 million a year at USC.
Narduzzi is fourth all-time in Pitt football history with 53 wins. He's three wins from tying John Michelosen, seven from Pop Warner for second place. Jock Sutherland went an incredible 111-20-12 in 15 years at Pitt.
