PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – The amazing spring for Pitt athletics continues as Pitt volleyball swept Utah and made it to a first ever Sweet 16.

It really wasn't close.  Pitt won the sets 25-16, 25-18, 25-19 and hit .369, winning in all of the major statistical areas.

SENIOR Class Award finalist Chinaza Ndee had 17 kills, ACC Player of the Year Kayla Lund with 15 kills and 16 digs.  Chartiers-Houston grad Kylee Levers led the Panthers with 22 assists, Lexis Akeo with 18.

Coming off three straight ACC championships, the Panthers lost their first two matches of the season.  During the shortened fall season, Pitt was just 4-4.

They haven't lost since.  Starting back with a rout of Villanova on Valentine's Day, the Panthers have swept 10 of their 14 opponents, including both in the NCAA Tournament.

Panthers will face number 3 Minnesota in the Sweet 16 on Sunday at 1p in Omaha.  The Golden Gophers finished second in the Big 10 at 15-2 and were in the Final Four in 2019 (the sixth time the program made it that far).

Head coach Dan Fisher is 196-53 in his 8th season at Pitt, signing a seven year contract extension in January of last year.

They aren't the only Panthers team making an impact this year.
