PITTSBURGH (93.7 the Fan) – While many locally believe it will be a big year for Pitt football, the media who cover the conference are skeptical. Panthers were picked 8th in the ACC preseason football poll.
Clemson picked first with all but two first place votes, those went to second place Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish will compete for the conference title this season.
North Carolina is third followed by Louisville, Virginia Tech, Miami, Florida State and then the Panthers.
Virginia is ninth by a wide margin over Wake Forest, then NC State, Duke, Boston College, Syracuse and Georgia Tech.
Three Panthers land on the All-ACC preseason first team - center Jimmy Morrissey, safety Paris Ford and defensive end Patrick Jones.
Jones has 12 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks last year while Ford led the Panthers in tackles and interceptions with three. Morrissey will make his 36th career start after coming to Pitt as a walk-on.
Panthers open the season September 12th hosting Austin Peay. Panthers pregame will start three hours before the 4 o’clock kickoff on 93.7 the Fan.
