It wasn’t just the Pitt faithful that believed the Panthers were snubbed in the NCAA tournament, national experts pointed to Pitt among the teams that should’ve made it.
The seeming mistakes of the selection committee were on full display on Tuesday evening when Colorado State showed that Virginia didn’t deserve to be in the tournament.
Virginia only scored 14 points in the first half and ended up losing 67-42 to move on.
Pitt ended Virginia’s 23-game home winning streak in February.
“And the way you perform in this tournament, it puts the committee on notice, you made a mistake putting Virginia into the NCAA tournament,” said Wally Szczerbiak during the postgame. “Every bracketologist was saying it, they go out and play like this, it’s unwatchable basketball.”
Szczerbiak pointed out several other teams that should’ve been in the tournament instead of Virginia.
That included Pitt.
Oh, and one more thing.
It’s probably just a conscience, but former Pitt Athletic Director, now with Oregon State, is on the 12-person selection committee.
