The Pittsburgh Maulers are once again a thing of the past.

With the USFL and XFL merging four teams have been cut, one of them being Pittsburgh.

The Maulers lost the USFL Championship game to Birmingham this past season.

The Maulers spent two seasons in the USFL and transformed by the classic purple and orange color scheme to black and gold this past season.

They never played a game in Pittsburgh.

The first season they played in Birmingham, Alabama and this past season were a little closer to Pittsburgh in Canton, Ohio.

The original Maulers were founded in April 1983 and only played in the USFL for one season before folding in 1984.

The Maulers went 3-15 in the Atlantic Division that season.

Other teams that won’t make the jump to USFL-XFL include New Jersey, New Orleans and Philadelphia.

Surviving teams include, Michigan, Houston, Memphis and the current champions, Birmingham.
