CRANBERRY TWP, PA (93.7 The Fan) – The Pens captain said after the end of the season he wasn’t sure, but the announcement on Tuesday that Sidney Crosby will represent Team Canada in the IIHF World Championships.
Pens GM Kyle Dubas, assistant Jason Spezza and Strength and Conditioning Coach Sean Young are part of Canada’s leadership group. Pens defenseman Parker Wotherspoon, who paired most of the season with Erik Karlsson, will also play for Team Canada.
Crosby also played for Team Canada in the Olympic Games where he suffered a lower-body injury (believed to be knee) that kept him out until March 18.
It’s the fourth time Crosby has represented Team Canada in this tournament, also last year, in 2006 and 2015-winning the championships. The 38-year-old is one of nine Canadians in the ‘Triple Gold Club’ winning a Stanley Cup, Olympic Gold and World Championship.
This year’s World Championship starts on Friday in Switzerland.
