Phil Kessel is a Stanley Cup Champion. That was the simple sentence used after the high-scoring star came to Pittsburgh from Toronto in 2016.
He would win his second one in 2017.
Now, the 35-year-old is a three-time Cup champ, with the Las Vegas Golden Knights winning their first championship on Tuesday night.
To celebrate, one of his old Penguins teammates, Evgeni Malkin (a three-time Cup champ himself) posted to his Instagram story.
It’s a photo of Kessel from his days in Pittsburgh with two Stanley Cups Photoshopped on his hands and a third one floating above his head.
While he did skate in all 82 regular season games, Kessel was a healthy scratch for a large portion of the playoffs.
Lifting his third Cup also gave him the opportunity to take a shot at the critics in Toronto that said he couldn’t win the big one.
While he didn’t play as much in the playoffs, like he did when he was with the Penguins, Kessel was happy to share this one with his daughter.
