PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Playing in his first NHL game, Pens defenseman John Ludvig had to be assisted off the ice after a huge collision at center ice in the second period of the game Tuesday night against Dallas.
Ludvig was skating up ice and initiated a collision with 6’3”, 215-pound Dallas center Radek Faksa, after both initially went down to the ice, Ludvig didn’t get up. The rookie laid face down, barely moving for minutes. As the trainer came out they were eventually able to get up to sit up and then a couple of teammates helped the 6’1”, 213-pound Ludvig to the bench and from there he was helped to the locker room.
Claimed off waivers from Florida on October 9, the 23-year-old had played part of the last three seasons in the AHL with 25 points in 70 games. His father, Jan Ludvig, played in the NHL for seven seasons (1982-89).
