The Penguins have announced that forward Sam Poulin is taking a leave of absence from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins "due to personal reasons."
General Manger Ron Hextall made the announcement on Wednesday afternoon.
"The Penguins support Sam's decision to take time away from hockey to focus on himself," said Hextall. "As with all of our players, our priority is them as individuals first. We look forward to having him back with the team when he is ready."
Poulin has played in three NHL games, making his debut on October 25 against the Calgary Flames getting his first point, an assist.
Over two seasons with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Poulin has 20 goals and 21 assists over 85 games in the AHL.
Hextall says the 21-year-old will head home to Quebec and will continue to work out.
"The team will have no further comment on his status at this time, and kindly asks that his privacy be respected," a release stated.
Poulin was taken in the first round, 21st overall, in the 2019 NHL Draft.
