PITTSBURGH (93.7 the Fan) The Pittsburgh Penguins are no stranger to members of their front office suiting up to play on the ice; Mario Lemieux famously bought the team prior to coming out for retirement to finish his playing career.
An obstacle that the Penguins may be new to is a member of the front office suiting up for a different team… in a different league.
Trevor Daley was hired to serve as Penguins hockey operations advisor in 2020 and will continue to hold that position.
The 38-year-old might still have some legs, however, as he has signed with the ECHL's Florida Everblades as a player.
It was announced Thursday by the Everblades that the two-time Stanley Cup Champion will join the team while they fight through COVID issues.
According to reports, the contract with the Everblades is only a try-out offer to play a couple of games while they get through their COVID outbreak.
Daley hasn't played pro hockey since the 2019-20 season with the Detroit Red Wings.
