PITTSBURGH (93.7 the Fan) While fans wait for the start of Penguins training camp, it will come with some faces that are with the team on professional tryout offers (PTO).
36-year-old forward Brian Boyle, and 33-year-old Pittsburgh native defenseman Matt Bartkowski have signed official PTO's with the Penguins.
The two will participate in training camp which has yet to be scheduled.
Boyle last played with the Florida Panthers in the 2019-20 and scored 15 points (6-9).
No matter where he has played in the NHL, Boyle has always played above his skill level against the Penguins.
In 44 career games, Boyle has score 9 goals and 8 assists for 17 points against the Penguins; Those are all highs against any team in the league he has played against.
One of the biggest nights for Boyle came in Nov. of 2018; A cancer survivor himself, Boyle was playing with the New Jersey Devils against the Penguins on Hockey Fights Cancer Night.
Boyle went on to score his first, and so far only, NHL hat trick.
Bartkowski is coming off of inconsistent NHL playing time in the past two seasons; One game in 2020-21 and two in the 2019-20 season.
Bartkowski is 33-years-old and may still have some NHL fight left in him; The Pittsburgh native is a left shot defenseman and there could be a spot somewhere in the organization open for him.
