PITTSBURGH (93.7 the Fan) Just before the deadline of the NHL roster freeze, there was a flurry of moves made around the league.

One of which included the Pittsburgh Penguins and a notable forward.

The Penguins have traded Jared McCann to the Toronto Maple Leafs for (former Pens) prospect Fillip Hallander and a 7th round pick.

Since joining the Penguins, McCann has arguably one of the best goal scorers with one of the best shots on the team.

There has been a lot of contention around McCann the last few day regarding his protection status, but with the trade, none of that matters.

In 141 career games with the Penguins, McCann 39 goals and 45 assists for 84 points.

This past season he was on pace for well over 50 points, if not pushing 60 had there been a full 82-game season.

With Hallander back in the fold, the Penguins' prospect core get a jump, albeit not much.

The team, and league now look ahead to the Expansion Draft on Wednesday.
