The Pens seven game win streak was snapped on Sunday at the hands of the second place Carolina Hurricanes in a 3-2 final.

After a scoreless first period, the Pens and Canes added a goal in the second period making the game tied 1-1 headed to the third period. Derek Stepan scored three and a half minutes into the second period and Rickard Rakell tied the game on a power play goal with 7:30 to play in the period.

Five minutes into the third period the Penguins broke the tie with a Brock Mcginn goal, but just three minutes later, Carolina tied the game. Brady Skjei netted his 6th goal of the season tying it all up 2-2.

It was the former Penguin with the knockout punch as Jordan Staal scored a one-timer right in front of the net on a pass from Jesper Fast to give the Hurricanes a 3-2 lead with 6:27 in the game.

"They're hard to play against," said head coach Mike Sullivan. "They're committed to playing the game a certain way, they got a good team game. That's just how the game played out."
