PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – With a number of seemingly interchangeable forwards, the Pens traded one to Edmonton to bolster their defensive depth on Wednesday before playing at the Capitals.
Pens flip Filip Hallander for Spencer Stastney. The 26-year-old defenseman is coming off NHL career highs with 10 points in 66 games with 83 blocked shots. Before being traded to Edmonton last year, he played on Nashville’s penalty kill. The 5’11”, 196-pound lefty shot has played 117 career NHL games with four goals and 15 assists. He’s also played for Team USA in the World Juniors and World Under-18. He is signed through this season at $1.5 million.
Hallander, the Pens second-round pick in 2018, is coming back from injury playing only 16 games (13 with the Pens, three in the AHL) last season.
