PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – When asked about the comments from Sidney Crosby’s agent about him wanting to win and the potential state of the team, Pens general manager Kyle Dubas didn’t waver as to try to potentially placate the second greatest player in team history. Dubas said they have a plan and are sticking to it.
“We can't alter the course that we're on, which is to bring the team back into the team that can contend for the Stanley Cup year in and year out because of what different media members may want, where they may want to see Sid play different things of that nature,” Dubas said as the Pens opened camp on Thursday. “We have to focus on doing what's right for the Pittsburgh Penguins and regardless of any sort of commentary or things that are said in the media, we can't change that. So this is our sole focus. I knew when signing up for the job this was likely going to be a part of it and it doesn't deter us from the task at hand.”
Crosby said on Monday while handing out gifts to a season ticket holder that he didn’t talk with his agent Pat Brisson before he made those comments. He believes his agent was just feeling for him because of three straight seasons out of the playoffs. Crosby said multiple times that he loves Pittsburgh and it’s ‘where I want to be’.
Now for Crosby, after going through his first practice of the season, he said his goal is to go out there and try to win games.
“I don't think that anybody likes to lose,” Crosby said. “I think that we're talking about my situation specifically, but there's 16 other teams that didn't make the playoffs and that aren't happy about it and want to get back there. Regardless of what the expectations are.”
